2021 Dodge Journey Redesign, Changes, Spy Pictures, and Price. Spy photos are already unveiling– the 2021 Dodge Journey will suffer a redesign. Not only that, but the vehicle will head into a new generation. Restyling will include more touches by Italian Fiat, which is implementing more ideas into FCA. The concept is ready, it includes new paint jobs, RT and SXT versions of Journey, and many more.
On the other hand, it is too early to speak about 2021 Dodge Journey release date. Rumors and information are more focused on the details of the redesign. It’s been ten years since the arrival of the mid-size SUV. The major update in 2011, the crossover had no big changes in the last few years. Now, it is time for the new, second generation. We can expect to see the Fiat Freemont, Journey’s European sibling, to follow the same path shortly after.
2021 Dodge Journey Engines
The current generation is using reliable sources of power. Dodge and Fiat will rely again on the 2.4-liter four-pot unit or larger 3.6-liter V-6. The new generation of the 2021 Journey could borrow a 2.0-liter MultiJet powertrain from Freemont SUV. Diesels are not so popular in the US nowadays, but the FCA could risk and try to make a breakthrough with some tuning.
Four-Cylinder Engine Remains Base Choice
Under the hood of the entry-level 2021 Dodge Journey, we will find a four-banger. Later, we will talk about some surprises in the engine room, but all those rumors won’t change the base engine for the mid-size SUV.
It will be retuned 2.4-liter mill with the output of around 180 horses. At the same time, the drivetrain delivers 170 lb-ft of torque and fuel economy above 20 mpg in the city ride. On the highway, the new 2021 Dodge Journey will do better than the current one (26 mpg). Engineers will drop the old 4-pace transmission and pair all engines with a 6-speed gearbox.
Retuning of the V-6
Again, the 2021 Dodge Journey will keep the V-6 engine that powered the previous generation of the SUV. This time, the drivetrain will gain at least 20 horses, making the crossover more powerful. Total output will be at least 305 hp, while the torque rating jumps to 280 lb-ft. Of course, the bigger unit is consuming more fuel to deliver extra power. With a two-wheel drive, 2021 Journey will be able to return 22 mpg combined, and AWD stays around 20 mpg.
2021 Dodge Journey Diesel Engine and Rear-Wheel Drive
We already mentioned one of the changes for the 2021 Dodge Journey. It is a switch from a 4-speed to a 6-speed transmission for all versions. The redesign could include the addition of the smaller displacement. In Europe and some other parts of the world, we can find Journey and Fiat Freemont riding on a 2.0-liter MultiJet diesel powertrain. This engine is good for 140 horses and 230 lb-ft of torque. As a diesel, it will bring all advantages of such a drivetrain. On the other hand, there are also downsides coming after big VW and Audi scandals.
Another big news is that FCA engineers decide to switch from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive. Previous owners and fans of the Journey could take some time to get used to it. The power distribution to rear axle will make this SUV less reliable on wet surfaces. On the other hand, the crossover is going to boost its handling and towing. An all-wheel drive remains the option. The 4 × 4 mode will probably jump in to help RWD selection when needed.
2021 Dodge Journey Borrows Ferrari Stelvio’s Engine
The new generation and the redesign of 2021 Dodge Journey include more surprises. These are only rumors, some of them are possible. If we have to rank the possibility of 2021 Journey coming with an engine used by Alfa Romeo Stelvio, we won’t give it many chances. On the other hand, if the SUV comes with a 2.9-liter turbo-six under the hood, buyers of this version can count on 500 horses, at least. The upcoming platform of the 2021 Dodge Journey is capable to support this powertrain. This is the main fact that keeps this idea alive.
2021 Dodge Journey Redesign and Changes
Many changes are in the mix for the new 2021 Dodge Journey. Of all, upcoming SUV will use a new platform. Fiat and FCA will implement the Giorgio concept. And guess which another vehicle in the family is using it besides Alfa Romeo Giulia? Yup, it is Stelvio. It warms up stories about the new engine, as well as new styling.
Definitely, 2021 Dodge Journey redesign will bring some shades from its sibling. We are sure that the crossover will change its appearance. With more power, Journey must add aggressiveness into its look. Lower ride, new bumpers, and headlights, extra options and colors are going to make the life easier to this model. There is no clear info about details, so we must wait to see the vehicle without heavy camo to talk about the design.
2021 Dodge Journey Spy Photos
The first spy photos and renders are available. Neither of these unveil too much. Initial test mules are carrying only a few new parts. These are covered by hiding panels. Even if we catch them now, it is not sure that these parts will make its way for 2021 Dodge Journey. Renderings are showing some ideas of the upcoming crossover based on the existing Stelvio and Giorgio platform.
2021 Dodge Journey Production and Release Date
The new 2021 Dodge Journey is not going to be available any time soon. During next year we will talk more about details. At this moment, only the production move is certain. The upcoming Journey will be assembled in Italy, instead of Mexico. The same factory that delivers Alfa Romeo Stelvio will produce the Dodge’s SUV.
Another thing that bothers fans and enthusiasts is the price. If 2021 Dodge Journey adopts a new platform that will definitely mean a higher price. Moving production from Mexico to Italy will boost the cost of delivery. New generation and more power means we can’t count on $21,000 price tag sticker that hangs from the current vehicle. The Stelvio costs over $40,000.
The journey is not going so high, but FCA is not going to sell two similar crossovers, built on the same platform, with such a difference in price. We expect the cost of the 2021 Dodge Journey to jump, but estimations are still not available. This one shouldn’t top the value of the flagship model– Dodge Durango.
